Gardenrailways

On the train side, nothing much is happening.  Since we are out in the country there isn’t anyone for at least 45 minutes that runs a train.  One day I hope to visit the main train group in Grand Junction.  I know they have some G Scale people the and maybe a steamer will be among them.  For the most part I just don’t have time.  If I can get the garage unpacked and the organized this winter, then maybe next year we can look at the trains.  For now I will have to be content with making the annual steamup in Kansas once a year.

Cackle Fruit Lodge

If you have been following my Photo Album for the Cackle Fruit Lodge then you know what has been happening.  If not, you can follow it here:  Cackle Fruit Lodge

The coop is about done.  Just a little painting on the trim.  The interior is on a timer with one of those 26 Watt bulbs that puts out 100 watts of light.  I have a Thermo Cube in there that kicks on a heat lamp when it hits 35 degrees.  So far, everyone is doing fine.

Steamup 2010

Only made it to one steamup last year. However, in the past this steamup was to far away to get to from Michigan. Now it is about 12 hours and well worth a long weekend trip.

The Chickens are coming, the Chickens are coming!!!

Ok, well maybe.  We are still up in the air on a place to live.  While living in an apartment the trains are living in the closet and the track and supplies in storage.  However, we are looking at house that might be for rent in the spring and have our fingers crossed.  If that happens not only will the trains eventually see the light of day, so will a small flock of chickens.

What do chickens have to do with trains?  Nothing!  But like any good A.D.D. person, I have to keep learning and experiencing new things.  So I am going to try my hand at some chickens.  It will give me some eggs and give the dog something to do.

Not sure when or if it will happen but I will try and post some pictures here when it looks like we will move.  Then in addition to a Live Steam Cam on the site during steamups, I will have a Chicken cam.  Just to kep everyone entertained.

Until the next time.

I know, I know.  There is never anything new here.  Well, that is because life and work get in the way of having fun.  So you will have to take what you can get!!  smile_regular

However, I just posted some images from a steamup we had last May and from the Pre-Huckleberry event Steamup on July 31st.

Status Update

Filed under: Shop Talk — admin @ 13:23

Been spending most of my time organizing the shop lately.  It all started when I purchased a used lathe and there was no place to put it.  Next thing you know, the garage and the basement are a total disaster area as I reorganize.  The basement is back to normal and the garage is almost there.  I still have some boxes to go through but I need more storage cabinets or something for all that miscellaneous stuff.clock

I plan on getting back to the legs for the new portable soon and then I need to get started on building the framework for the track.

I’ll post some pictures of the Lathe and the shop soon.

Anniversary Run - Live on the Internet

On Tuesday March 7th 2000, after a long day of work, I came home to find a brand new Ruby Live Steamer waiting by the front door.  Skipping dinner I quickly laid an oval of Bachmann track on the garage floor.  Which later rusted from the water out of Ruby.  After a few minutes of reading the instructions I made my first run of a Live Steam Locomotive.

To commerate 8 years in the hobby I will be running my BR86 Live on the Internet at 6pm this evening (Sunday).  If anyone would like to see this live event, please visit the link below which will take you to my web site.  This is the first time I have tried to broadcast live on the Internet so it may work great or you may get nothing.  A still image will update every minute on my main page which I will also link below.

Looking forward to a great year of steaming!  Hope to see you all soon.
